James Topham named Fellow of the Chartered Accountants by ICABC
February 20, 2012 – James Topham, CA, Director on the Board of Guard RFID Solutions Inc. has been selected to receive the distinguished FCA Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia. Fellowship is bestowed on CAs in recognition of the service they have provided to the profession and/or the honour they have brought to the profession. Members are nominated by peers and elected to Fellowship by the Institute’s Council. The Institute awards the prestigious title to members in recognition of their exceptional commitment to the profession and remarkable contributions to the community.
Mr. Topham is well known and revered in the Vancouver’s technology community. He was an audit partner in KPMG’s Technology Group in their Vancouver office for 20 years, and started KPMG’s PC consulting practice, as well as the first KPMG technology group focused on audit, tax, and related services to technology companies.
As founder of the BC Technology Industries Association, he was a board member for its first nine years. He initiated the founding of the Clean Technology CEO Alliance and served on its Advisory Board. Mr. Topham also served on the board for WINBC for three years and the Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC for 4 years ending in 2010. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the BCTIA in 2009. He is a founder and for three years the Chair of the BC Social Ventures Partners, a group that contributes both time and money to local innovative charities. He is currently a board member and the audit committee chair for Norsat International Inc., DDS Wireless, Day4 Energy Inc., and Epic Data; and a board member of Guard RFID Inc.
He also recently completed a four-year stint on the ICABC Council. His other contributions to the BC Institute include serving as a course developer and instructor for the School of Chartered Accountancy in the early 1980s, and as a member of the Information Technology Task Force, the Audit Committee, and the CPD Advisory Group.
