Active RFID based SafeGuard K-12 Safety system allows rapid notification of threats, precise location and automatic lockdown

Vancouver, BC – May 29, 2013

Guard RFID Solutions Inc., an industry leader in 433MHz Active RFID technology has announced the release of its SafeGuard K-12 Safety System, designed to assist personnel in schools to instantly declare Code Red or Code Yellow and automatically notify local staff as well as remote agencies of the threat, and to promptly identify the location from where the alarm was sent. The system can be configured to automatically lock down selective zones within the school in order to secure occupants within vulnerable areas, and to send alerts to staff members equipped with GuardRFID’s bi-directional Staff Badges.

These badges support enhanced functions such as Man Down Detection, Duress Alarms, and bi-directional communications, allowing transmission of coded signals to the badge and annunciation at the badge that an alarm has been received by security personnel. Alarms can be initiated from any location within the facility, and instant notifications dispatched using several methods including using a remote monitoring station, email and pagers, saving significant precious time in notifying appropriate authorities of a potential safety threat. The badges can also be used for controlling access through doors so as to allow entry only after proper hands-free identification is obtained from the system. SafeGuard K-12 Safety is integrated with Video Management Systems, to automatically enable a live view of the location from which an alarm is initiated, as an option.

“In light of the apparent increase in security threats in schools, we feel that we should all contribute whatever we can to enhance the security of our children, teachers and our schools’ ancillary staff”, said Zahir Abji, GuardRFID’s President and CEO. “The SafeGuard K-12 Safety system permits instant notification of a security event simultaneously to public safety agencies and school staff, which enables a more rapid response to a threat and therefore reducing potential harm. Its ability to automatically and swiftly secure the perimeter or selective zones can contain the threat and minimize exposure. Equipping both, students and staff with GuardRFID’s tags can provide critical demographic information to allow for more effective emergency response activities.”

GuardRFID combines Long Range, Proximity, and Direction-of-Travel Detection technologies to positively identify tagged personnel and assets entering or exiting a building, and to detect their presence and location in real-time while inside the building. The system delivers maximum return on investment because the infrastructure can be used for multiple solutions associated with tracking, locating and securing people or assets.About Guard RFID Solutions, Inc.

Tag Reader TRC-LNL now interfaces Lenel controller to provide Hands-Free Access Control when coupled with GuardRFID’s Tag Exciter

Vancouver, BC – April 29, 2013

GuardRFID has received factory certification of the OSDP Interface between its Active RFID Tag Reader and Lenel’s access control panel using the OSDP protocol. This hardware integration provides Lenel’s OnGuard® access control system users the ability to directly connect GuardRFID’s Tag Readers to the OnGuard access panel to set up portals to detect GuardRFID Active RFID’s tags. The tag’s range of detection is adjustable from two to 30 feet, allowing for “hands-free” access control functionality. The tags can be placed anywhere on people and objects and do not have to be presented at a reader as required with conventional access control systems. The OnGuard system manages Active Tag IDs similar to any other badge ID that is collected from standard proximity card readers.

“GuardRFID has completed required factory testing at Lenel to validate the functionality of its OSDP interface to OnGuard 2012 (version 6.5) and OnGuard 2013 (version 6.6). The integration of GuardRFID’s Tag Reader will allow new and existing OnGuard users to take advantage of enhanced Active RFID-based functionality for perimeter and zonal security,” said Gidon Lissai, director, strategic alliances, Lenel Systems. “We look forward to their continued involvement in the Lenel OpenAccess Alliance Program.”

“We are very excited about the integration of our hardware directly with Lenel’s access control panels,” stated Zahir Abji, president and CEO, GuardRFID Solutions, Inc. “It commoditizes GuardRFID’s Active RFID hardware and allows Lenel’s OnGuard system to take advantage of the unique attributes that Active RFID can provide, taking access control to a higher level of functionality. Besides providing control for personnel flow through portals, features such as asset tracking and loss prevention are available for OnGuard users.”

Unique Direction-of-Travel Detection combined with advanced RTLS yields unprecedented reliability and safety.

Vancouver, BC – October 26, 2012

Guard RFID Solutions Inc., an industry leader in 433MHz Active RFID technology has announced the general release of its Evacuation Monitoring and Personnel Accountability solution. The system is designed to assist in complying with OSHA 1910-38(c)(4) regulations by accurately detecting and locating personnel present within a building during an evacuation event. The GuardRFID ST-series Staff Tags enable enhanced functions such as Man Down Detection, Duress Alarms, and bi-directional communication allowing transmission of coded signals to the tag wearer including acknowledgement that a duress alarm has been received by security personnel.

“We believe that our solution is the most powerful tool available in the market for visibility of personnel during an evacuation event”, said Zahir Abji, GuardRFID’s President and CEO. “We designed the system with input from a global Fortune 500 company, and several similarly prominent organizations are either testing the system or are highly interested in acquiring it. These companies have tried other technologies such as passive RFID and SMS using cellphones, but none have come close to matching the reliability and functionality of our solution.”

GuardRFID combines Long Range, Proximity, and Direction-of-Travel Detection technologies to positively identify whether tagged personnel enter or exit a building, and to detect their presence and location in real-time when inside the building. The active RFID Staff Tags also eliminate the information accuracy problems associated with card-swipe or proximity card systems that cannot detect multiple personnel entering as a group or have to exit as quickly as possible during an event. The GuardRFID system also delivers maximum return on investment because the infrastructure can be used for multiple business solutions including Visitor Management, and Asset Tracking and Security.

New Active RFID Tag Delivers Greater Security, Comfort, and Ease-of-Application for Infants, Pediatrics and Other High-Risk Patients or Students

Vancouver, BC – August 17, 2012

Guard RFID Solutions Inc., an industry leader in 433MHz Active RFID technology for healthcare and industrial applications, has announced the release of a new tamper-sensing tag based on a unique and patented cut-band technology designed to alarm in the event of unauthorized removal of the tag worn by a patient or student.

GuardRFID already offers the widest choice of active RFID tags for healthcare security including Umbilical Tags, TotTag dual-tamper sensing infant tags, and standard Patient Tags. The addition of a tag based on cut-band technology further extends its leadership position and offers healthcare customers worldwide a much-needed solution for tagging high-risk pediatrics and other patients, and offers an attractive solution for other elopement prevention applications. The new tag uses a specially designed hypoallergenic band that is soft and comfortable on the skin. The unique tag and band design eliminates exposed metal contacts to improve reliability and safety. Oxidation of metal contacts in traditional cut-band technology can cause failed operation.

“We have introduced the cut-band tag at the request of pediatric hospitals wanting a better patient tagging and security solution than what was currently available in the marketplace. Although originally designed with Pediatric Protection in mind, this new tag also offers another dimension of security for Infant Security, Wandering Patient Protection, Wandering Resident Protection, and K-12 security, “ said Zahir Abji, President and CEO of GuardRFID. “We are very proud to be able to expand our customers’ choices of tags for patient security applications.”

GuardRFID’s AllGuard Integrated Security for Healthcare suite consists of Infant Security, Staff Duress, Wandering Patient Protection, Pediatric Protection, and Asset Tracking and Loss Prevention. All applications within the suite reside on the same infrastructure, allowing users to leverage their deployed system to achieve rapid return on investment.

GuardRFID instrumental in three-year process to develop new Active RFID standard

April 24, 2012 - Vancouver, BC

IEEE has announced the publication of the 802.15.4f-2012 standard for active RFID and RTLS applications, as an amendment to the existing 802.15.4-2011 standard. Conformance to the standard will now allow interoperability between systems and give end-users a wide selection of vendors, whereas currently the choice has been limited to a single source that supplies a proprietary technology platform. This is expected to significantly spur adoption as it gives the consumer of the technology security of supply and potentially a wide selection of manufacturers to choose from.

GuardRFID was instrumental in developing the narrowband communication protocol for the 433MHz frequency band, which is part of the PHY layer of the standard. This frequency band allows operation of Active RFID devices globally, and is also optimal as it permits longer communication range and lower path loss when compared to higher frequencies. It is also preferred in many application of the technology as it exhibits zero interference with Wi-Fi and ZigBee infrastructures operating in the 2.4 GHz frequency band. This powerful yet highly-efficient protocol is also bi-directional, supports design using low-cost silicon circuitry, and can achieve location accuracy of 2-3 meters. Utilization of this frequency band enables development of efficient, low-power active RFID devices and systems that provide reliable performance, superior ability to work in the presence of metal and fluids, and precise location for a very high population of tags.

Zahir Abji, President and CEO states, “We are very excited about the positive impact that the standard will have on the global 433MHz active RFID industry and I am extremely proud of the GuardRFID engineering team’s role in its creation. We are in a strong leadership position with a large, proven family of active RFID products that will comply with the standard using a simple software upgrade, which should provide comfort to our existing and new customers.”

Dalibor Pokrajac, GuardRFID’s Executive Vice-President of R&D, was one of the primary members of the 802.15.4f-2012 standard group since its inception in 2008. He introduced the 433 MHz PHY, and contributed in the development of the MAC protocol for the standard. GuardRFID has been developing its active RFID technology platform to ensure compatibility with the new standard. All of GuardRFID’s existing industrial and healthcare customers globally enjoy deployments that are already standards-ready and are uniquely positioned to take advantage of industry standardization and interoperability.
